I love this picture and I hate this filter. I took this over the summer while I was in California. I really liked the picture and decided to try out some filters on it. I soon realized that all of the filters sucked. A couple of days later I was looking at ATPI photos and realized just how many people use filters. It's like nothing that wins is original work anymore. It's been jacked with and torn apart over and over again until it's something completely different than it was before. I learned from this picture that I want to start editing way less.

Make Up: November 16
ISO: 400 F/stop: 7.1 1/60 sec
I've been realizing recently that being in photography is teaching me more than just how to take pictures. These two images are pictures of me paying my dues. It's a known fact that you have to pay your crap before you can have fun. Well, the teacher in the Tigervision class has been asking me to take pictures of lunch menu items for him for video's they put up in the cafeteria. This isn't an assignment from yearbook or newspaper. I'm not getting paid and neither is the club. But if we want to continue having a good relationship with our fellow publication classes, sometimes we have to take the turds that roll down hill.

Self Portrait POC
This is my piece of crap. I used my Rebel and set my ISO and my focus because I didn't know how to set my aperture and shutter speed. I basically decided that since this has been my life for the past month, this is what I would portray. It was actually 2:30 in the morning when I took this and I was in fact not done with homework. Anyway, because my Rebel doesn't fit on the tripods, I took a chair and a dresser and twelve books and set it up in front of my bed. At first I tried to do it with just the computer light but everything was just black around me so I opened my closet door (which is to the left) and ended up bringing down the exposure in that corner in Lightroom. Honestly, I do like it just because it actually portrays what I've been doing recently.

Make Up: November 14
I have a million bajillion pictures from the Nutcracker but I can only put a few on here so I chose these. Don't know if they're the best choices, but they're well enough.

Make Up: November 10
A couple months ago I got to go to a T Swift concert with my friend Emily. I wasn't actually aware that you couldn't bring in anything other than a point and shoot camera. They confiscate your camera if your lens is over four inches. Mine was six or eight haha. I just had my long lens in my purse and they never checked it. Shooting it was so much fun though! It was so cool to mess with how the lights changed and everything was moving and crazy. It was fun.

I used to be crazy good at basketball last year. Not gonna lie. This is the first basketball game of the year I've shot and it was absolute crap. It was so crappy and out of focus and blurry and grainy and BULL that the yearbook teacher legit called Smith to tell him how bad they were. So I'm determined to get good b-ball picks soon. In the meantime, my bad ones...

The past two mornings I've had to shoot swim practice at 6:45 IN THE MORNING!!! I absolutely love shooting swim but I am absolutely terrible at it and it makes me so angry. I tried my absolute best but my camera shutter decided to be a big poop head so that messed it up along with me just being plain old bad at it. This was the only good picture I got and it's not even of legit swim. Gah.
Make Up: November 2
I saw a picture on Flickr of this girl who did a self portrait of half of her face and a violin because she's taken violin lessons her whole life. I really liked it so I decided to recreate it with Claire and her violin. I wasn't a super fan of what came out of it but I any more experience with off camera lights I get is good. I'm not the best at flash and umbrella and blah blah so I was basically just proud I got the lighting all good :)

This isn't an exceptional picture or anything but I learned something pretty important out of taking it. I was given an assignment to take pictures of girls in the locker room. Not changing or anything! Just them chillin in there. Well I got there, and it turned out that all of the girls that are in there in the morning had left fifteen minutes before for a basketball game somewhere faaaar away. There were two or three girls in there who were dressing out for P.E. I took all of the backpacks that had been left in there and set them up in one place and then put a girl up beside them opening her locker. This made it at least look like there were other girls in there, you just couldn't see them. This whole assignment taught me a very important lesson...how to cheat.

Skypin It Up!
Today we skyped with Morgan Walker. She's a photojournalist who started out in Smith's class back in the dark ages. She told us all about how she got interested in photography and what she ended up doing after high school and how she got to where she was. She also threw a lot of what she learned in this class and how it helped her later on in life and her career into the conversation. It was really neat learning that people who are older and more experienced really are taking lessons from their high school photography class. It was reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one who hates all the extra stuff. By that, I mean everything that's not behind a camera. I dislike classes and homework because all I wanna do anymore is sit behind a lens. It's ridiculous. But Morgan made me feel better haha. She told me that you basically have to give up a lot to do what you want but I think I'd be okay with that. I think Morgan really made my decision for me. I want to do this after high school and after college and whatever comes after that.

Creeper Project
So I did backflips and everything to get this project done. I used the Arsenic and Old Lace set that's in our theater right now. I really wanted to do it with someone in costume but no one was through getting dressed by then so I didn't get to. I originally had the master shoe set up so I could be legit and not have to use another pocket wizard. BUT! Because I am me and things never work, it absolutely refused to cooperate and I'm still not sure why. I ended up getting another shoe from the yearbook room. I wanted to use a purple gel for this but two things happened. First, I had to put the flash on full power for the exposure to even begin being proper just because the gel was so dark. Second, I was working so hard to get the two lights to work correctly because I had to put them so near each other that I basically just forgot. Anyway, I'm glad I got it done and I'm satisfied. But then again, I wish it was better.
