Depth of Field Semester Projects

This was a happy accident I took during Hairspray. It was semi accident semi purposeful. I really liked how there were layers of people up until you got to Ellen. This is one of my favorites.

These next three were ones I did in class over a picture I found on the internet. Smith showed me how to use the flash down and off to one side. It was really cool but it took a lot of tries to get what I wanted.

The black and white picture was originally going to be my book cover but it didn't look enough like the book for me to be satisfied. It was super bright and sunny outside and took soooo long to get it to a point where their hands didn't just look like a big ball of light. I  had the same problem with the picture under this one. They were plant boxes that students were working on and inches above the boxes were these super bright lights. I sort of have a problem with getting lighting correct on the first try but both of these images helped me with that a lot.

Alex and I had had this idea for a looong time. When we finally did them they turned out much better than I thought they would. Because her face was so close, I had to keep moving to get focused correctly.

Hannah Patt and I were talking about DOF pictures the other day and we started playing around with everybody's class rings and this is what came out. It wasn't really a challenge or anything but it was fun.
